October 17 ... standing on her own (well, almost)

Monday October 17, 2005 - waiting for "legs" the team prepared to make 461 survive the UP weather.

Still awaiting parts for the main landing gears, most of Day 10 was spent removing stripped and rusted screws from all the panels on the back bone and upper fuselage of our aircraft. All the panels are now removed and are ready to be sealed and reinstalled. Waterproofing the entire jet is very important. Once painted and placed on static display, we want it to withstand our hard winter's and wet spring's.

Our crew today consisted of Lee Nellist, Steve Farnsworth, Jim Heinz, Woody Wood, Lani Duquette and "finally pry him out of the American Eagle hangar, Jerry Henthorne. Jerry was a hydraulic guy when he was in the 87th. Maybe he was waiting for something hydraulic to break??? Anyway, Jerry did a great job today removing several panels and many more stripped screws.

Thursday we hope to have two trunnion pins for one of the main landing gears. If we do, we will start to install the first our of MLG's. All four tire and wheel assy's are in Green Bay, WI being filled and made solid. Both main gear brakes are free and are ready for the wheel and tires after we hang the gears.

Four more work sessions before we shutdown for the winter.
