October 20 ... one leg at a time |

The Ole Girl Finally Has A Leg To Stand On! How long has it been since 461 had main landing gears under it? Well, today she has her first one back. The restoration team reinstalled the right main gear today. After some grunting and a few choice words, the first MLG slid into place. The trunnion pins produced by our F-4 friend , Tom Bleau, fit perfectly! After securing the gear, the main landing gear fairing door was also installed. The right main landing gear and support assembly only needs one bearing housing and a tire and wheel to be complete. We hope to move on to the left gear on Thursday October 27th. With a couple more parts and a little luck, 56-0461 could be standing on her own two feet by the time we shut down for the winter. Other projects today included removal of the right side outboard elevon actuator. The elevon's will be placed in the neutral position using the actuator attachment points. In preparation for closing and securing the missile bay doors, all the inner bay panels were reinstalled. Work also continued on preparing fuselage panels for sealing and reinstallation. |
