October 24 ... 3 legs under 461

Monday October 24, 2005 - 56-0461 now has three landing gears.

With the locally manufactured gear parts and a lot of muscle, the left main landing gear and fairing door was hung and secured on 461.

Before long our jet will come in for a landing and will be once again standing on her own three feet.

The work crew was excited to have both landing gears installed. In the crew picture standing are Scott Mills, Dan Benstrom (Chairman of the K.I. Sawyer Heritage Air Museum Board of Directors), Lee Nellist, Steve Farnsworth, Lani Duquette and knelling are Jimmy Heinz and Terry Pihainen. American Eagle Airline guys Woody Wood and Jerry Henthorne joined us later.

Also at today's work session was Tom Bleau, shown in the wheel well wearing the blue shirt, our in house machinist. Tom came out to see how we were doing with the parts he made plus to take measurements for the last three pieces he must produce to hold the drag brace and gear actuators to the jet. We hope to have these parts on before we shut down for the winter.

Our four tire and wheel assemblies will be picked up in Green bay, Wisconsin this week and will be sand blasted and painted before being put on the gears. Steve Farnsworth has cleaned all the wheel bearings and has them packed with grease ready to go back in the wheels.

Our legless "dart" that came from Tucson, Arizona this past May, will be fully towable this fall! What a great accomplishment for the project team.

Other work completed today was the sealing and installation of the back bone and upper fuselage panels.

We have two work sessions to go. We will meet again this Thursday at 9 am and next Monday the 31st of October at 2 pm to finish up what we can plus prepare the aircraft for winter storage.
