October 31 ... no "tricks" only "treats"

Today was the last official work day for 2005. The hangar has been secured for the winter, all the borrowed equipment has been returned and everything else has been put in locked storage.

We've done it!  We've met and exceeded our maintenance objectives for this summer and fall. With a few minors items to clean up the next two weeks or so, we are ready to start up the restoration project this coming spring.

The main landing gear rotator's are in, the drag links and hooked up, the elevons are locked in neutral, all the back bone and upper fuselage panels are sealed and reinstalled and the jet is ready for winter storage.

All of the volunteer's who came out this year have gone above and beyond to make this project a success. All of them are mad because we had to shut down for the winter. But financially we must shutdown. Heating the hangar just to work on the jet would be very expensive and you know how cold it gets here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Our special thanks also to our "in-house" machinist, Tom Bleau (pictured in the black shirt standing with Lani Duquette) for all of his great fabrication work. 461 thanks him and the Selfridge AFB Museum for her new legs.

This coming spring and summer will be very busy for us. We will have to finish up all the odds and ends and "get'er" painted. Continue to watch the museum web site for updates on the "Dart" restoration and the development of the K.I. Sawyer Heritage Air Museum.
