August 15 ... another day on the job

Monday August 15, 2005 ... it starting to feel like just another day at the office.

Most of the regular crew worked tonight to continue to prepare the right wing for installation Thursday morning. "Woody Wood and Bill Dowling finished up the sheet metal work that needed to be done on the fuselage before we could install the wing. Jim Heinz continued getting the wing pin and races ready. Steve Farnsworth continued to remove museum quality panels and switches from the cockpit. Scott Mills and Lani Duquette went out and "acquired" two wing jacks to hold the mighty "six" up until we get the other wing on and gears hung. The wing was also test lifted again do to some new brackets being made. As the night went on, it seems that Lee Nellist found himself a good job and it involved "Playdough." He told us he was making a mold for some jack pads.?????? It looked like he was having more fun "rolling and patting" the "Playdough." Don't get me wrong, that was an important job!

Both wing roots were degreased, cleaned, rubbed down with alcohol and primed. Both patches were completed and were also primed.

The right wing will swing this Thursday.

Steve Farnsworth has donated a great 87th FIS hat to the K.I. Sawyer Heritage Air Museum. Steve also gave a tour to Jan Seppa, the sister of CMSGT Dave Seppa, 87th Alumni, deceased. Jan was glad to be able to see the jet and felt her brother would have loved to be involved.

Next work session, August 18th, 9 am - 1 pm. "Swing a Wing!"

Today's task were:

  • Continue to prepare wing pin races/journals/bearings for wing installation.

  • Continue to remove salvageable cockpit equipment for the museum.

  • Install new wing lift brackets and perform a test lift. (Test was good.)

  • Finished fuselage patches.
