General Dynamics FB-111A "Aardvark"

 

Serving "on display" at K I Sawyer is tail number 68-0239

 

FB-111A tail number 68-0239, nicknamed "Rough Night", was accepted by the Air Force on  December 9th, 1969. It was assigned to Plattsburgh AFB, New York.  While assigned to Plattsburgh AFB the aircraft served on satellite alert at K I Sawyer AFB during the early 70's.  On July 11th, 1991 the fighter-bomber was flown in to K I Sawyer AFB for static display. This aircraft flew 6122 hours in 22 years of service.

Manufactured by General Dynamic, Fort Worth TX and gained by the USAF on 23 Dec 1969.

Aug 1970     To 340th Bombardment (Medium) Group (Strategic Air Command), Carswell AFB TX

Sep 1971     To 380th Bombardment (M) Wing (SAC), Plattsburgh AFB NY (deployments to Carswell AFB TX and Pease AFB NH)

July 1991      Dropped from inventory by transfer to museum program

July 1991    Flew into K I  Sawyer AFB, MI from Plattsburgh AFB, NH to be placed on permanent static display.
